The modern conception of tenure in US higher education originated with the Statement of Principles on Academic Freedom and Tenure. Jointly formulated and endorsed by the AAUP and the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), the Statement has gained the endorsement of more than scholarly and higher education. This book explores the meanings, experiences, and challenges faced by Black women faculty that are either on the tenure track or have earned tenure. It delves into existing social (in)equalities, educational (dis)parities, and (in)justices in the promotion and retention of Black women academics.
